A new hint has surfaced suggesting that Valve could be preparing to launch its long-awaited Steam Machine console sooner rather than later. The device was originally unveiled in November 2025 and was expected to arrive during the first quarter of 2026. However, Valve postponed the launch indefinitely due to memory market issues and concerns about maintaining a reasonable retail price.
While the company has yet to announce a new release date, recent activity within Steam has attracted attention from enthusiasts and insiders.
Industry insider Brad Lynch discovered references to a Welcome Tour application in Steam’s database. The software is believed to be an onboarding tool designed to help new owners set up and familiarize themselves with Steam Machine. Historically, similar software additions have appeared only a few weeks before a product reveal or launch. A comparable situation occurred before the release of Steam Controller 2.
Interest in the speculation grew even further after Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley shared a GIF featuring clouds of steam. Many fans interpreted the post as a tease for Half-Life 3, but another theory has gained traction. Some observers believe the animation was actually hinting at Steam Machine.
If that assumption proves correct, Valve could use the June 5 Summer Game Fest showcase to reveal the console’s release date or even announce that sales are beginning immediately. There is also speculation that the company could pair the hardware announcement with the long-awaited return of its famous crowbar-wielding physicist.
According to previous reports, Steam Machine is expected to cost more than $1,000. Buyers will reportedly have four hardware configurations to choose from, including versions equipped with 512 GB and 1 TB of storage.
