Stephen Colbert is working on a new movie based on The Lord of the Rings

Studio Warner Bros. announced that famous TV host Stephen Colbert, who is a big fan of J. R. R. Tolkien, is currently working on a new movie based on The Lord of the Rings.

The announcement was made during a video call between Colbert and Peter Jackson. Jackson supported the initiative, noting that Colbert is a “special partner” who will help expand the cinematic universe.

The script is being written by Colbert together with his son, as well as Philippa Boyens, one of the screenwriters of The Hobbit trilogy.

Project synopsis: “Fourteen years after Frodo’s departure, Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter Elanor discovers a long-buried secret and decides to uncover why the War of the Ring was nearly lost before it even began.”

Currently, Warner Bros. is actively expanding the franchise. In addition to Colbert’s project, the film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, directed by Andy Serkis, is also in development, with a premiere planned for 2026.

Recall that Team Redline is changing its name to Verstappen Sim Racing.
