Subnautica 2 Copper Guide: Where to Find Copper Early

Copper is one of the most important resources during the opening hours of Subnautica 2. You'll need it for crafting tools, building your base, and creating essential components that unlock further progression. Unfortunately, the game doesn't clearly point players toward the best farming spots.

How to Find Copper in Subnautica 2

One of the closest copper locations can be found inside the cave beneath the coral dome sitting roughly 30 meters east of the Lifepod.

Swim inside the dome and continue deeper into the cave system below. Along the walls and floor, you'll discover small copper ore deposits. Each of these smaller nodes rewards one piece of copper.

However, this isn't the only useful early-game location. A much better farming spot can be found around 130 meters east of the Lifepod, past the cave with a strong upward water current.

Beyond that cave, you'll find another entrance containing several copper deposits attached to the walls and ceiling. Larger copper formations can also appear here, and these can be broken by hand. Unlike the smaller nodes, these larger deposits can reward three or more pieces of copper at once, making resource farming much faster.

Players should stay cautious while exploring these caves. Some nearby plants release poisonous clouds that deal damage if you swim too close.

Copper can also be found farther north near the Old Habitat and Camp Zero points of interest. These locations sit roughly 300 to 400 meters from the Lifepod and are areas players will naturally visit while progressing through the main objectives.

What Copper Is Used For in Subnautica 2

Copper is required for several important crafting recipes early in the game and becomes especially valuable once you start expanding your base.

It's also needed for Copper Wire, a core crafting material used in many advanced recipes.

Some of the early-game recipes that require copper include:
