Subnautica 2 Development Roadmap Revealed

Following the launch of Early Access for Subnautica 2 on May 15, Unknown Worlds shared the first details about the game’s future development plans. The studio unveiled a preliminary Early Access roadmap and briefly explained what kind of content players can expect in upcoming updates. The developers also confirmed that larger expansions featuring new vehicles, tools, and additional gameplay mechanics are planned for the future.

At the same time, the team clarified that it is not ready to provide exact release dates for the updates yet. According to the developers, this approach will help them avoid strict deadlines and adjust plans based on community feedback. Because of this, the roadmap may still change over time.

The first major patch, Early Access 1.1, will focus on improving overall gameplay comfort. Planned additions include updates to the PDA database, the Biomods system, and Blight-related events. The developers are also reworking vehicle docking mechanics, crafting systems, fragment research, and voice log features. In addition, players will gain the ability to sprint, access new resource storage options, and use additional passive Biomod slots.

The next update, Early Access 1.2, will place a stronger emphasis on co-op gameplay. It will improve HUD interface signals, base-building systems, and recipe pinning functionality. New features will include voice chat, character emotes, item trading between players, ally revival mechanics, and extra customization options.

Future updates are expected to significantly expand the game world with new biomes and regions to explore, additional sea creatures, and a new story chapter. Alongside new content, the developers also promised to continue releasing bug fixes, balance updates, and optimization improvements regularly.
