The animated film Super Mario Galaxy Movie has become the first release of 2026 to surpass $1 billion in global box office revenue. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film earned $428.5 million in the United States and $571.5 million internationally.
Thanks to the success of two full-length films, the Super Mario brand has become one of the most profitable animated franchises in Hollywood. The first installment, The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), grossed over $1.3 billion.
The franchise’s total global earnings now stand at $2.3 billion, placing it ninth among the most successful animated brands, alongside titles such as Kung Fu Panda, Inside Out, and Despicable Me.
As a reminder, Microsoft will release a limited-edition version of the Xbox Series X for the brand’s 25th anniversary.
