HBO has announced several cast members for the third season of The Last of Us, which is expected to be the final season of the adaptation.
One of the most interesting casting choices is the return of Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby in The Last of Us Part II. In the series, Bailey will portray Elizabeth, the leader of the religious Seraphites. Abby herself will continue to be played by Kaitlyn Dever.
This is not the first time HBO has used this approach. The first season featured Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, the original voice actors for Joel and Ellie, who appeared in the adaptation in different roles.
The third season will also feature Golden Globe and Emmy winner John Goodman, known for The Big Lebowski and Monsters, Inc. Ian Alexander will also return after voicing Lev in The Last of Us Part II. In the series, Lev will be played by Kyriana Kratter, while Alexander will portray Paco. Goodman will play Paco's friend Joey.
The third season of The Last of Us is expected to premiere in 2027. The story will focus on the most controversial part of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II.
Craig Mazin remains the show's showrunner. Neil Druckmann stepped back from the series after the second season to focus on the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
