While ChinaJoy 2026 received little attention from Western audiences, Remedy Entertainment used the event to showcase a brand new trailer for Control Resonant. The upcoming title serves as a sequel to 2019's Control and an indirect continuation of Alan Wake 2.
The latest trailer offers a closer look at several gameplay mechanics and story elements. Staying true to Remedy's signature style, most scenes remain highly cryptic. One of the most striking moments shows Jesse Faden driving the Aberrant into the chest of her brother Dylan. The powerful artifact can transform into multiple melee weapons, including a dagger, hammer, staff, and more. Moments later, the trailer reveals an older Dylan awakening, suggesting that Control Resonant begins with players exploring his mind or another metaphysical realm as he searches for his sister.
The sequel also introduces a major gameplay shift. Instead of focusing on gunplay like the original Control, the new game leans much more toward fast paced hack and slash combat reminiscent of Devil May Cry.
This time, Dylan takes center stage as the main protagonist instead of Federal Bureau of Control Director Jesse Faden. Remedy has also moved the setting from the Oldest House to the streets of Manhattan, where supernatural creatures have escaped from the FBC headquarters. A reality altering catastrophe has twisted the city, leaving buildings suspended in the air and rotated at impossible angles, allowing players to traverse across rooftops and gravity defying structures.
The main story is expected to take around 30 hours to complete, while achieving 100% completion will require roughly 50 hours.
Control Resonant launches on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
