A new report from analytics platform Game Oracle suggests that integrating AI into the game development process leads to an average 53% decline in the number of positive reviews a game receives. In addition, the presence of AI technology negatively impacts the number of times projects are added to Steam wishlists.
Researchers identified a clear relationship between a studio's reputation and the market's reaction to the use of artificial intelligence. The effect of the so-called "AI stigma" is distributed as follows:
- For low-quality games, the use of artificial intelligence has virtually no impact, as audiences do not have high expectations.
- For high-potential games from well-known studios, the use of AI has catastrophic consequences, leading to a 40–60% decline in sales. In such cases, audiences effectively punish developers who might otherwise have been expected to succeed.
Despite the stark statistics, the authors of the report conclude that AI should not be completely excluded from the development process. Instead, it should be viewed as a supporting tool rather than a full replacement for human labor. Studios that choose to implement this technology are advised to proceed with extreme caution.
As a reminder, a new trailer for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was released, and the dates for its upcoming beta test have been announced.
