The RAM shortage may last until 2027 due to AI growth

The rapid expansion of the artificial intelligence industry is causing a prolonged shortage of RAM. According to analysts at Nikkei Asia, the shortage may not end until 2027. The head of SK Group stated that it could even last until 2030.

The main reason is the surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is essential for AI accelerators.

Leading manufacturers such as SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Micron Technology are being forced to reallocate their production capacity. According to Nikkei Asia, production would need to grow by 12% annually in 2026 and 2027 to meet demand. However, data from Counterpoint Research shows that manufacturers are only planning a 7.5% increase.

Since HBM production is more profitable, companies are prioritizing it, which limits the output of standard DRAM used in regular PCs.

It is worth noting that Boars Gaming previously became champions of the SURGE Nations League.
