The release of God of War Laufey is expected in the first quarter of 2027

According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, the upcoming God of War Laufey could launch in the first quarter of 2027. The insider expects the release to happen around February or March, adding that the game is already “almost finished”.

God of War Laufey was revealed in early June during Sony’s State of Play presentation by Santa Monica Studio. The new entry in the legendary franchise will focus on Faye, Kratos’ late wife, and her story before the events of the recent games.

Following the announcement, the developers did not reveal a release date, but later reports suggested that development on the project began around ten years ago. Jason Schreier previously expressed surprise that Sony had not shared a release window, as he had heard that God of War Laufey was already close to completion.

In his latest video, Schreier said he expects God of War Laufey to arrive in early 2027, most likely in February or March. He also pointed out that this period could become extremely crowded for major releases, as many developers are avoiding competition with Grand Theft Auto VI and are moving or scheduling their games for the beginning of next year. He mentioned Fable, Persona 4 Revival, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis as examples.

Schreier believes the official release date for God of War Laufey will be announced soon.

The new PlayStation 5 exclusive will offer a completely different and already controversial perspective on the God of War universe. The story of Laufey will take place alongside the events of God of War (2018), with Faye traveling to the afterlife of divine beings, where she will encounter enemies connected not only to Norse mythology but also to other cultures, including Asian and Ancient Egyptian traditions.

Faye’s main goal will be restoring the original fate of Kratos and Atreus, as only then will she be able to ensure that the ancient prophecy is fulfilled. Like Kratos, Faye is a skilled warrior with mastery over weapons and magical abilities, while her battles will feature support from allies, including both new characters and familiar faces from previous entries.

The mysterious talking amorphous cube has already become a major point of discussion among fans. Many believe it does not fit the traditional God of War atmosphere, while others encourage players not to make rushed judgments before the game’s release.
