The first reviews for Ukrainian studio Frogwares’ The Sinking City 2 are now live, and the game has received a largely positive reception. Its current average score sits at 81–82/100 on OpenCritic and 79/100 on Metacritic.
Critics are particularly praising the game’s unsettling atmosphere, survival horror elements, exploration, and story. Frogwares has taken a different approach compared with the original game. Instead of focusing on a large open world and detective gameplay, the sequel delivers a more compact survival horror experience built around exploration, combat, and investigations.
Reviewers have also pointed out some technical issues and familiar genre mechanics. Still, for a studio that has spent more than 20 years primarily developing detective games, an average score above 81 is a very solid start.
