Ubisoft cuts 40 jobs at its Toronto studio

Ubisoft has carried out layoffs at its Toronto studio, with around 40 employees losing their jobs. At the same time, the publisher says development of the Splinter Cell remake, first announced in 2021, is continuing and the project has not been canceled.

In a statement to Mobile Syrup, Ubisoft said the decision was difficult.

«This decision was not taken lightly and does not in any way reflect the talent, dedication, or contributions of the individuals affected», «Our priority now is to support them through this transition with comprehensive severance packages and robust career placement assistance», — the company said.

Ubisoft Toronto, which has previously worked on Watch Dogs Legion and Far Cry 6, remains involved in the Splinter Cell remake and will continue to support development on other projects. The Canadian layoffs follow similar staff reductions at the company’s Swedish studios, as well as reports of potential job cuts at its Paris headquarters.

The move is part of a broader restructuring at Ubisoft, which recently canceled another high profile remake Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Last week, around 1,200 Ubisoft employees went on strike in response to the layoffs and wide ranging cost cutting measures.

As a reminder, Players in 2XKO will receive in-game rewards for participating in community tournaments.
