Warhorse denies Lord of the Rings rumours and confirms new RPG in development

Warhorse Studios, known for the Kingdom Come series, has addressed rumours about a potential Lord of the Rings project. During a recent Reddit Q&A, the developers made it clear they are not working on a LOTR-based game, while confirming they are developing a large-scale RPG.

The speculation began back in March when localisation specialist Ryszard Chojnowski claimed he had heard the Czech studio was working on a Middle-earth title with a budget of around $100 million, allegedly funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office. However, the studio did not confirm these claims.

When asked by Reddit user Alone_Violinist2137 whether a Lord of the Rings game was in development, content director Ondřej Bittner replied that the team was "hard at work on ... something", adding that "obviously we cannot disclose any details but I can share that it is a huge immersive RPG".

Responding to another question about the nature of the project, he emphasized that it "will definitely be an RPG true to our colours - huge, story-driven and immersive". Bittner also noted that the reveal of the new game is expected in the "near future".

In short, Warhorse has confirmed it is working on a new title, but the Lord of the Rings rumours appear to be unfounded.
