Warhorse upcoming Lord of the Rings RPG is already being compared to GTA 6 in terms of hype

Fans of The Lord of the Rings have recently received major news as Warhorse Studios is developing a new open world role playing game set in Middle earth. Following the strong reception of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, many see the pairing of the studio and the franchise as a perfect match, even though very few details about the project have been revealed so far.

Despite the lack of information, excitement has been building rapidly since the announcement. The game is expected to still be several years away from release, but it is already drawing attention from RPG fans and Tolkien enthusiasts alike.

At the same time, the industry continues to discuss the impact of Grand Theft Auto VI on release schedules across the market. The game is widely seen as a title that forces publishers to shift or carefully choose their launch windows in order to avoid competing with one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history.

Analysts suggest that Warhorse’s upcoming Lord of the Rings project could create a similar scheduling impact once its release date becomes clearer. Several major games are already being positioned more cautiously within the calendar to avoid overlapping with major launches.

Warhorse Studios is also working on a new entry in the Kingdom Come Deliverance series, which is expected to release sometime between April 2027 and March 2028.

Industry observers believe that if the new Lord of the Rings RPG matches the quality of Warhorse’s previous work, it could become one of the defining releases of its period and significantly influence the gaming calendar.
