Xbox Console Sales Hit Historic Low in May

May 2026 marked the worst month for Xbox hardware sales in the United States in the entire history of tracking, which began in 1995. The main cause of the sharp decline in the market was the rapid rise in prices driven by component shortages and increasing production costs.

According to analyst Mat Piscatella, who shared the data on BlueSky, the crisis also affected both major console competitors. PlayStation sales likewise dropped to their lowest May level in the past 25 years.

Meanwhile, the absolute leader in sales both in May and overall since the beginning of 2026 was the Switch 2. PlayStation ranked second, while Xbox finished in last place.

The decline in demand for Sony and Microsoft devices is directly linked to recent price increases caused by shortages and the high cost of console memory and storage components. In light of these economic challenges, Xbox has already announced another price hike: starting August 1, 2026, the price of each console model will increase by at least $100.

As a reminder, NBA The Run will receive a single-player mode.
