Microsoft has responded to reports claiming that PlayStation 5 is massively outperforming Xbox Series X|S in GTA VI preorders. Earlier reports suggested that preorder numbers for Rockstar’s upcoming game were supposedly split at an 8 to 1 ratio in favor of Sony’s console.
Xbox representatives stated that these numbers do not reflect actual preorder performance because they are based only on affiliate link clicks rather than official sales data.
«This doesn’t represent pre-order data. We’ve had record orders. People should wait for real data and not clicks on affiliate links», — an Xbox spokesperson said.
The company also explained that affiliate tracking data does not provide a complete picture of the market, as it depends on the audience of a specific website, regional factors, and user shopping habits. Such numbers should not be treated as a direct representation of total game sales across platforms.
While PlayStation currently holds a larger share of the console market, there is still no official data showing the exact GTA VI preorder split between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
