Microsoft is reportedly preparing major changes to Xbox Game Pass in 2027, including the removal of day one releases from the Ultimate subscription.
According to ResetEra insider Slayven, who has previously shared accurate Xbox Game Pass information, the changes could reportedly begin rolling out between February and April 2027.
With day one releases reportedly being removed, the price of Game Pass Ultimate could drop from $22.99 to $19.99 per month. Microsoft may also introduce a separate ad supported tier priced at $12.99 per month.
Cloud gaming could also be removed from the standard subscription. Instead, players may reportedly be able to purchase 25 hours of cloud gaming for $5.99 per month as a separate option.
Another reported tier could cost $14.99 per month and include access to the Game Pass catalog and online multiplayer.
Day one releases have been one of the biggest advantages of Game Pass, making their potential removal a major shift in Microsoft’s subscription strategy. This could be especially significant following Microsoft’s acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, with their new releases frequently joining the service on launch day.
Microsoft has not officially confirmed any of these reported changes. Several insiders already suggested in July that day one releases could be removed from Game Pass, but this latest leak is reportedly the first to provide a potential timeframe.
While Slayven has accurately leaked Game Pass information in the past, this report should still be taken with a grain of salt until Xbox officially confirms its plans for 2027.
