The esports organization AG.AL has officially become the Club Champion of the 2026 Esports World Cup. At the closing ceremony in Paris on August 23, the Chinese team received the main trophy and a $7 million check, surpassing the two-time defending champions, Team Falcons.
The key factor in their success was the organization's versatility across different games, rather than dominance in a single discipline. Over seven weeks of competition, the club accumulated 5,300 points, competing in 18 tournaments. The silver medalist, Team Falcons, scored 4,600 points, while Team Vitality rounded out the top three with 3,300 points. AG.AL's most significant EWC results include:
- 1st place: Trackmania (French player Gwendal "Gwen" Duparc brought the team a crucial 1,000 points, allowing them to overtake Falcons) and Tekken 8 (victory by Pakistani player Khawaja "M. Zubair" Muhammad Zubair).
- 2nd place: Chess, Free Fire, and Honor of Kings.
- 3rd place: Teamfight Tactics.
According to COO Eddy Chen, the EWC victory serves as practical confirmation of the club's successful new global strategy. The organization, whose roots date back to 1999, focused exclusively on the domestic market for decades, building a fanbase of 350 million. However, starting in 2024, AG.AL began an active international expansion. The management's ambitious goal is to attract another 300 million international fans over the next five years.
To achieve this goal, the club is undergoing a massive geographic restructuring. Currently, AG.AL is opening regional headquarters in Hong Kong and Dubai, with the launch of a European office near France scheduled for 2027. Having local entities significantly simplifies legal and banking processes for signing foreign talent. The organization now features over 10 nationalities (including a Danish Fortnite roster and players from the US and UK in Warzone). Furthermore, this will allow for effective management of Western social media and the adaptation of content for local audiences.
The global expansion also has a clear commercial foundation. AG.AL positions itself as a bridge between major international markets. The club helps Chinese sponsor brands, such as Taobao Flash Buy and OBSBOT, enter the international arena. At the same time, AG.AL offers Western companies direct access to China's massive esports market.
As Chen emphasized, the EWC champion status not only elevates the organization's credibility during negotiations with new players and sponsors but also proves that the Chinese esports giant can successfully scale and build an emotional connection with fans all over the world.
