Apple may be preparing a new mobile gaming accessory — its own game controllers for the iPhone. According to Bloomberg and journalist Mark Gurman, the company has been working on the devices for over a year, and they are likely planned to be sold under the Beats brand.
The first confirmations of the controllers' existence appeared in early September. Mentions of two unreleased devices codenamed T6502 and T1057 were found in the code of the macOS 26.7 beta version. They feature a standard set of elements for a modern gamepad: two analog sticks, a D-pad, shoulder buttons, triggers, and Home and Menu buttons. One of the controllers also supports an accelerometer and a gyroscope.
According to Gurman, the main platform for these devices will be the iPhone itself. Apple views mobile gaming as a growing market and wants to strengthen its presence in it. However, the exact specifications, design, price, and release date of the controllers remain unknown.
Interestingly, Apple may use the Beats brand specifically, which the company acquired in 2014. In recent years, Beats has been gradually expanding its product lineup beyond audio devices, so a gamepad could become another direction for the brand.
So far, Apple has not officially confirmed the development of the controllers. However, if the devices do come out, the company could take another step toward turning the iPhone into a full-fledged gaming platform.
As a reminder, Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, AirPods 5, new Apple Watches, and the foldable iPhone Duo.
