A prestigious offline rapid chess tournament has concluded in Paris as part of the Esports World Cup 2026. The competition took place from August 11 to 15, 2026, at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The tournament, which featured 22 players, was organized by the Esports Foundation, ESL FACEIT Group, and Chess.com. The total prize pool for the event amounted to $1,500,000 USD.
Magnus Carlsen emerged as the winner of the tournament, defeating Denis Lazavik in the grand final with a score of 2:0 in a "Best of 3" match series. For first place, Carlsen claimed the main prize of $250,000 USD and 1,000 Club Points. Silver medalist Denis Lazavik earned $190,000 USD. Third place went to Hikaru Nakamura, who defeated Alireza Firouzja 4:1 in the decisive match, taking home $145,000 USD.
The results of the Ukrainian player and the representative of the Ukrainian esports organization are worth noting separately:
- Ukrainian Olexandr Bortnyk finished his run in the tournament sharing 19th-20th place. This result earned him $22,000 USD in prize money.
- The esports organization NAVI was represented at the tournament by Nodirbek Abdusattorov. He reached the playoff quarterfinals, where he narrowly lost to finalist Denis Lazavik with a score of 2:3. Ultimately, the NAVI player shared 5th-8th place, earning $75,000 USD and 200 Club Points.
