PowerA and Meridian GMT have unveiled the Project X-Ray Flight Deck, a unique wireless controller designed specifically for flight simulation enthusiasts and tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Flight simulators are known for their steep learning curve and the large number of controls required during gameplay. While dedicated flight sticks offer a more authentic experience, they are often expensive and take up considerable desk space. Project X-Ray Flight Deck aims to bridge that gap by combining specialized flight controls with the familiar shape of a standard Xbox controller.
For now, the companies have only released a short teaser and launched an official product page. Although the device is based on the Xbox controller form factor, most of its traditional inputs have been replaced with aviation-focused controls. The controller features a throttle lever, flap and landing gear controls, a rotary trim wheel, dedicated lights and radio buttons, and a separate autopilot control section in place of the standard D-pad.
The teaser also suggests that the right-side control module can be swapped out, allowing the device to be adapted for different aircraft types, including both airplanes and helicopters.
Since PowerA develops its accessories under an official Xbox license, the Project X-Ray Flight Deck will be compatible with both PC and Xbox consoles from launch.
The price, release date, and final retail name of the controller have not yet been announced.
