SNK Announces Two New Metal Slug Projects to Celebrate the Franchise’s 30th Anniversary

The development team behind the iconic Metal Slug franchise has announced that it is working on two new projects. The reveal comes as part of the celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary. The franchise began in 1996 with its debut on Neo Geo arcade machines before later being ported to platforms such as the Sega Saturn and PlayStation.

The first confirmed title is a mobile game called Metal Slug Rush. The project is being developed and published by RingGames under an official license from SNK.

The second project has not yet received an official title. Its creators describe it as a “completely new game” and a fresh experience within the series. The title is currently being developed directly by SNK’s internal development team. No additional details or release window have been disclosed so far.

Both announcements are part of the anniversary campaign titled MISSION REBOOT!. Over the past three decades, the franchise has produced more than a dozen games, including seven mainline entries. The most recent release in the series remains Metal Slug Tactics, which launched in late 2024 for PC and two generations of consoles.

As a reminder, Ninjas in Pyjamas moved Ukrainian player cairne to the bench after six months with the roster.
