High-quality VR games allow players to gain a deeper gaming experience and feel as if they are truly inside that world. However, the market is quite overcrowded with various projects, making it really difficult to find good games for VR.

In this article, we’ve gathered the best virtual reality games that will give you a ton of different emotions and won’t leave you indifferent.

VR Gaming Precautions

To play VR games, you need a special headset that displays images directly in front of your eyes, creating a sense of presence in the game. If you move your head or hands, sensors will transfer those movements into the game.

If you plan to play VR games, especially with older headsets and earlier projects, you should be prepared for the possibility of experiencing what is known as VR syndrome. It is similar to motion sickness and often causes nausea due to a conflict between what your eyes see and what your body actually feels.

Of course, virtual reality headset manufacturers are aware of this issue and are actively working to address it. Newest VR games have become safer and are less likely to cause nausea in players, as game and headset developers are improving motion tracking and reducing the delay between head movement and frame changes. Still, beginners are advised to start with short play sessions of 5–10 minutes to allow their bodies to adapt.

Best VR Games of 2025

The year 2025 is still underway, and not many notable virtual reality games have been released yet. However, we’ve highlighted the three best VR games in 2025 so far.

Hitman World of Assassination

Platform: PSVR 2

In March 2025, the VR version of the updated Hitman trilogy was released. The game is available exclusively on PSVR 2.

Players take on the role of the well-known Agent 47, with the main objective, as always, being the elimination of targets. Hitman World of Assassination is now considered the best virtual reality adaptation of the series, as it introduces many new mechanics. For example, players can use a weapon and another item simultaneously, allowing them to neutralize multiple opponents at once.

Of course, the game has some technical issues, such as bugs when interacting with doors and occasional lack of accuracy when using long-range weapons, but these occur relatively infrequently. Overall, players will experience a fresh take on Agent 47’s story and new ways to eliminate targets.

Arken Age

Platforms: PSVR2, SteamVR

At the beginning of 2025, the studio VitruviusVR released Arken Age, an adventure VR game set in a fictional terraformed fantasy world called the Bio-Chasm, created by the Great Arborist.

The developers implemented excellent physics in the game — every movement feels real. To fight, swim, catch arrows, and more, you must physically perform those actions. Every move matters, forcing players to plan ahead and sometimes improvise.

Many players praise Arken Age as a full-body experience that enhances immersion and offers a richer gameplay experience. An additional bonus is the inclusion of Ukrainian text localization in the game.

Pinball FX VR

Platforms: Meta Quest, SteamVR

In April 2025, Zen Studios released the VR version of the well-known pinball simulator — Pinball FX VR. The game allows you to play in a three-dimensional environment surrounded by interactive objects and visual effects.

One of the key advantages of Pinball FX VR is that, in addition to standard pinball gameplay, you can go through a campaign, collect collectible items, and even play additional games like darts. However, the most notable feature is the ability to place pinball tables within your real-world environment.

Recommended VR Games

Here we’ve gathered a selection of recommended VR games released before 2025 that are still worth your attention.

Alien: Rogue Incursion

Platforms: PSVR2, Meta Quest 3

We begin with a game based on the Alien franchise — Alien: Rogue Incursion, a great choice for fans of nerve-wracking experiences. The project falls under the action and survival horror genres. The events take place between the films Alien and Aliens, with the main character, Zula Hendricks, trying to survive in the Gemini Exoplanet Solutions facility, which is overrun with xenomorphs.

The game was well received by both players and critics. It was especially praised for its faithful recreation of the atmosphere from the films. Of course, it has its flaws — the most common complaint being the repetitive encounters with xenomorphs.

Batman: Arkham Shadow

Platform: Meta Quest 3

Batman: Arkham Shadow was developed by Camouflaj and is a continuation of Arkham Origins. The project was created exclusively for the Meta Quest 3 headset.

The combat system in the game is notably engaging, requiring players to move their hands in real time to strike, dodge enemy attacks, and block them.

The story is well-crafted, featuring a relatively unknown villain from the DC universe, with a rather intricate plot. The game world is filled with various collectibles, offering a nice break between intense combat sequences.

Metro Awakening VR

Platforms: Meta Quest 2 & 3, PSVR2, SteamVR

The studio 4A Games, known for the original Metro game series, hadn't previously released a VR game. However, the Dutch studio VR Factory obtained the rights to create a VR project set in the Metro universe.

The story takes place before Metro 2033. Players control Sergey, who has lost his wife and is trying to find her in a post-apocalyptic subway system. The game combines elements of survival, shooter gameplay, and psychological thriller.

Naturally, Metro Awakening VR isn’t without its flaws — players have noted technical issues, limited interactivity in some areas, and a slow-paced storyline.

Still, this project is worth checking out for fans of the series who want to once again immerse themselves in the post-apocalyptic subway atmosphere. However, keep in mind that the game is set in Moscow, so consider all the pros and cons before making a purchase.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Platform: PlayStation VR

Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a Sony-exclusive game available on PlayStation 4, with a virtual reality version designed for the PlayStation VR headset. The main characters are tiny robots that live inside the DualShock 4 controller. You’ll control Captain Astro as he sets off on a journey to rescue his crew members.

The game fully integrates the player into the action — the developers have designed it so that your physical movements are heavily involved in the gameplay. You’ll need to lean, throw objects, peek around corners, and perform many other real-life actions to progress through the game.

Beat Saber

Platforms: Meta Quest 2, SteamVR, PSVR 1&2

If you’ve ever wanted to play a mix between the well-known Dance Dance Revolution and the iconic Star Wars franchise, then Beat Saber is worth checking out. The gameplay revolves around swinging lightsabers in rhythm to slice through blocks, while also dodging various obstacles.

Originally released in 2019, the game remains highly relevant due to its large library of DLC tracks from popular artists. This allows players to slash through neon worlds to the beat of their favorite songs.

I Expect You to Die

Platforms: Meta Quest 2, SteamVR, PSVR

If you've ever wanted to feel like a secret agent—perhaps even James Bond—then the I Expect You to Die series is worth your attention. This is a puzzle game where you take on the role of a covert operative.

You’ll solve various challenges, such as escaping from a plane in a car. With each new installment, the developers have added more missions. Sometimes you'll need to defuse bombs, outsmart enemies, or complete other creative tasks. These missions are often time-limited, adding emotional pressure that you’ll need to learn to manage.

Lost Recipes

Platform: Meta Quest 2

If you’re looking to play a VR game but don’t want anything too intense—just something relaxing—Lost Recipes is a great choice. This cooking simulator is perfect for both newcomers to virtual reality and experienced players.

In the game, you play as a spirit-chef traveling through time to prepare traditional dishes from ancient civilizations. Precision is key—you must follow the recipes carefully. You’ll use your VR headset to slice ingredients, fry, boil, mix, and more in a calming, immersive environment.

No Man’s Sky VR

Platforms: PSVR, SteamVR

In 2016, Hello Games released the sci-fi exploration game No Man’s Sky. The main objective for players is to explore planets and gather resources to build bases. With the release of the Beyond expansion, the game received full VR support.

Using a VR headset greatly enhances immersion, as everything is experienced from a first-person perspective. You’ll feel like you’re actually piloting a spaceship, exploring alien flora and fauna, and constructing your own base. The freedom of action makes it easy to feel like a true interstellar traveler.

Resident Evil 4 VR

Platforms: Meta Quest 2, PSVR2

In 2021, Capcom released a VR version of the fourth installment in the legendary Resident Evil survival horror series, available on Meta Quest.

You play as Leon Kennedy on a mission to rescue the president’s daughter, which means fending off hordes of monstrous enemies using a knife, a pistol, and other improvised tools. Combat, reloading, and other actions require real-life hand movements, so prepare to be physically active. The game's atmosphere adds even more intensity, keeping players constantly on edge.

It’s worth noting that in 2023, a remake of Resident Evil 4 was released with a dedicated VR mode, although this version is exclusive to PSVR2.

Skyrim VR

Platforms: PSVR, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Oculus Rift

Every gaming fan has heard of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, released in 2011 and still relevant today. The first VR version launched in 2017. While it isn’t technically flawless—particularly in terms of graphics—many of these issues can be addressed with mods.

This is the kind of adventure game everyone should try. Exploring an open fantasy world in full VR with total freedom offers an incredible experience. You’ll engage in sword fights, shoot arrows, and cast spells—all from a first-person perspective that heightens immersion.

Superhot VR

Platforms: PSVR, PC VR headsets

Superhot VR is a unique shooter set in a minimalist world where time only moves when you do. The key is to carefully plan your actions and assess each situation, as the difficulty increases with every level.

Your goal is to eliminate enemies using pistols, knives, various objects, or even your bare hands. Every movement matters, creating a sense of tactical combat choreography that sets this game apart from other shooters.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Platforms: SteamVR, PSVR 1&2

At first glance, Tetris Effect: Connected may seem like a visually enhanced version of the classic Tetris. But once you play, you’ll quickly discover its unique charm.

Each level has a distinct visual and musical style that matches its theme. For example, you might play a level aboard a submarine, accompanied by calming ocean sounds and whales swimming around you. The fusion of gameplay, music, and visual effects creates a hypnotic, emotionally resonant VR experience.

Walkabout Mini Golf

Platforms: PSVR, Meta Quest (all versions), and SteamVR

If you want to try your hand at mini golf, Walkabout Mini Golf is a perfect choice. The developers from Mighty Coconut have created an excellent mini golf simulator with courses located in a variety of settings, such as outer space. The game also features a pleasant visual style.

The gameplay mechanics are excellently crafted — when you hit the ball, you can feel everything: the trajectory, the interaction with different obstacles. Additionally, Walkabout Mini Golf includes various extra activities, such as hidden areas, puzzles, the ability to search for lost balls, and more.

On top of all that, Walkabout Mini Golf features multiplayer for up to 8 players and cross-platform support, allowing you to play with friends.

Wands Alliances

Platform: Meta Quest

In 2022, the studio Cortopia released a magic-themed VR shooter titled Wands Alliances exclusively for the Meta Quest headset. The game features 3v3 duels set in steampunk London. Using magical wands and spells, you must defuse magical explosives or eliminate your enemies.

However, it’s important to note that the game focuses on team interaction and tactical movement. Players praise Wands Alliances for its well-implemented combat system and excellent atmosphere, which enhances immersion. Of course, some criticized the project for its lack of content at launch, but things improved over time.

So, if you're looking to play a magic-based VR shooter, Wands Alliances is worth checking out.

Half-Life: Alyx

Platform: SteamVR

In 2020, Valve released a prequel to the iconic game Half-Life 2, but in VR — Half-Life: Alyx. Naturally, the company used such an exclusive project to promote its own products, so the game is only available for virtual reality headsets compatible with the SteamVR platform — HTC Vive, Meta Quest, Oculus Rift, Valve Index, and others. The game itself served as a testing ground for new mechanics and the introduction of innovations.

The main protagonist of the game is Alyx Vance, who fights against the Combine. The player has the ability to manipulate various objects from a distance, engage in shootouts, peek from cover, and much more. The project is especially impressive due to its interactivity and atmosphere.

Half-Life: Alyx received numerous awards, was praised by fans of the Half-Life series, and became a technological breakthrough of its time. It is definitely worth trying.

We hope this list helps you find fun virtual reality games in which you’ll have a great time. Happy gaming!
