Blizzard Acknowledge That Overwatch Characters Are Becoming More Sexualized

Overwatch players have begun to notice a trend that characters are becoming increasingly sexualized over the years. Many of the new heroes set to appear in the 2026 season fit traditional beauty standards — they are typically tall, slim, and athletic.

GameSpot asked Overwatch senior producer Kenny Hudson why heroes are becoming more attractive and whether this is a deliberate decision by Blizzard.

The developers claim this is not simply an attempt to draw attention through fan service. “When we create heroes, we strive to make them unique. At the same time, we need to provide a solid technical foundation — proportions, height, and scale. This is necessary not only for creating cosmetic items and ongoing support, but also for eliminating technical limitations,” Hudson explained.

According to him, certain proportions make development easier:

“What really helps is longer limbs, longer legs, and a larger torso. This actually makes it easier for our artists to apply new geometry to character models. That’s why this happens.”

As a reminder, the results of the fourth round of the Six Invitational 2026 group stage have been published.
