According to an investigation by Tom Henderson, Ubisoft’s internal cost-cutting policies are jeopardizing the development of the company’s most anticipated projects.
On March 19, Ubisoft announced it would cease game development at its Red Storm Entertainment studio, known for the Tom Clancy’s series. The decision resulted in the layoff of 105 employees and is part of a broader cost-saving initiative.
The next installment in the Ghost Recon franchise (codenamed OVR) has been hit the hardest. Despite being considered strategically important for the company’s financial performance next year, the project’s scope has already been significantly reduced due to resource constraints.
The situation surrounding the Splinter Cell Remake is no less challenging. The project has long struggled with major budget overruns, and the shutdown of Red Storm—one of the key parts of Ubisoft’s “creative network” support—creates additional risks of further development delays. A shortage of qualified specialists, who previously assisted with technical aspects, is forcing core teams to revise their production timelines.
Staff reshuffles and personnel shortages are also putting pressure on the team working on the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which is currently scheduled for release in summer 2026.
Reminder: A DLC titled Cost of Hope has been announced for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
