Remedy Entertainment has shared new details about Control Resonant, confirming that the game will not feature a classic open world. Instead, it will offer an «open-ended» structure that emphasizes freedom of exploration without relying on a fully open map.

According to game director Mikael Kasurinen, traversal will be one of the core pillars of the experience and a key element that sets Control Resonant apart from other action games. The team is focusing on fast movement, distorted environments, and a seamless blend of melee combat and supernatural abilities.

«I think our way of handling traversal is going to be something that will stand out, and I also believe we have a unique take on how we blend melee with forward-facing momentum and supernatural abilities», — Kasurinen said.

Control Resonant takes place seven years after the events of Control. Jesse Faden has mysteriously disappeared, the Hiss containment has collapsed, and the corruptive force has spread beyond the Oldest House into Manhattan, transforming the city into a surreal and nightmarish landscape.

Players will take control of Dylan Faden, Jesse’s brother, who awakens from a coma and sets out to save the city. His main tool is the Apparent, a shapeshifting melee weapon that adapts to different combat situations and playstyles.

Remedy emphasizes that the game will feature a large amount of side content, but none of it is filler. Every secret, side story, and activity is closely tied to the lore of Control and helps expand the universe.

Kasurinen also explained that while the original Control was an action-adventure game, Control Resonant moves further into action RPG territory, offering more meaningful progression, real player choices, and distinctive builds.

«It’s not a question of just entering a genre that is new to us, but discovering what the Remedy interpretation of it is» — he said.

As a reminder, Ubisoft launches voluntary departure plan for 200 employees in Paris.
