Deus Ex, Saints Row and TimeSplitters Could Return as Embracer Plans Revival of Classic Franchises

Embracer Group has announced a major corporate restructuring that will split the company into two independent divisions starting in 2027: Fellowship Entertainment and Embracer.

The Swedish holding company has earned a controversial reputation over the years after acquiring a huge number of studios and projects. Poor management decisions and an overloaded production pipeline eventually forced the company to shut down several well known teams and abandon multiple iconic franchises.

Many players still blame Embracer for canceling the future of Deus Ex, shutting down Volition after the failure of Saints Row, ending support for Free Radical Design during the development of a new TimeSplitters, and more recently canceling an ambitious Eidos-Montréal project that reportedly spent seven years in development.

However, the company now appears ready to revisit some of those franchises. Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said that Fellowship Entertainment intends to work with reliable external partners to revive previously popular series. He specifically mentioned Deus Ex, Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, and TimeSplitters.

It remains unclear why Embracer would not simply assign new entries in Deus Ex or Thief to Eidos-Montréal, the studio previously responsible for those franchises, but the possibility of seeing these series return is already encouraging for fans.

Lars Wingefors also stated that outside developers could potentially help work on Fellowship Entertainment’s major franchises, including Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dead Island, Darksiders, Remnant, and Metro.

As a Reminder, State of Play set for June 2 — Marvel’s Wolverine to be featured during the presentation.
