Digital Extremes has taken a firm public stance against generative AI, making it clear that the studio will not use such technology in its projects, including Warframe and Soulframe.

Community director Megan Everett stated: «Nothing in our games will be AI-generated. Ever». According to her, the team remains committed to a human-driven development approach that players appreciate.

In the same discussion, she added: «We are a very non-AI company and it is all humans making Warframe and Soulframe». She also admitted feeling frustrated with modern digital art, saying she often cannot tell what is real: «I literally don’t know if what I’m looking at is real, and I get so frustrated about it… Nothing in our games will be AI-generated. Ever».

Everett also recalled a moment from a community stream where she showcased Warframe-inspired fan art influenced by Gundam. Viewers quickly identified it as AI-generated: «I thought it was so cool, and so I showed it. Immediately, everyone watching the stream clocked it, and I was devastated. It was so damn sneaky».

Despite growing skepticism toward generative AI in game development, the technology remains widespread. For instance, Arc Raiders saw success despite extensive AI voice usage, though it is now moving toward handcrafted assets. Its publisher Nexon has still praised AI as a cost-saving tool.

Other titles like Crimson Desert and Anno 117 have faced criticism for quietly including AI-generated «placeholders» in final releases.

Інші проєкти, такі як Crimson Desert та Anno 117, отримали критику через використання ШІ навіть у вигляді «тимчасових» елементів, які зрештою потрапили у фінальні версії ігор.

As a result, many developers are calling for clearer disclosure of AI usage, while the blurred lines are already affecting even handcrafted art. Against this backdrop, Digital Extremes’ stance has only increased anticipation for Soulframe.

As a Reminder, Founder of GSC Game World Serhii Hryhorovych: “The era of the Zone is officially over. I no longer have any connection to GSC or the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. projects.”
