Discord delays mandatory age verification and changes its approach

Discord has officially pushed back the rollout of its global mandatory age verification to the second half of 2026. The update was shared by co founder and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy, who admitted the company missed the mark and failed to fully explain how the system would work.

According to Vishnevskiy, more than 90 percent of users will not need to verify their age, as they do not change default security settings. For those who do, Discord’s existing internal age detection systems will remain in place.

Discord also committed to ensuring that any facial scanning takes place entirely on a user’s device rather than on cloud servers. Going forward, the company will work only with vendors that support on device verification. Partners that cannot meet this requirement will be dropped, as was the case with Persona.

The delay follows strong community backlash, subscription cancellations, and concerns over privacy, especially as age verification laws already apply in regions such as the UK and Australia. Discord plans to publish transparency reports, offer multiple verification options, and explore additional methods that aim to protect user privacy while complying with regulations.

As a Reminder, PPUBG Mobile to appear at Esports Nations Cup 2026.
