In 2024, Disney invested $1.5 billion into Epic Games and began developing plans for a “persistent social universe” where users will be able to play, watch content, purchase merchandise, and interact with the company’s franchises. One of the proposed features includes premiering major films directly inside Fortnite.
Fortnite is already experimenting with cinematic formats: recently, the platform hosted the premiere of Yuki’s Revenge, a short film by Quentin Tarantino from the Kill Bill universe, as part of the Fortnite After Dark event.

Epic Games long-standing ambition to transform Fortnite into a true metaverse, a persistent shared space for social interaction, entertainment and commerce, aligns perfectly with Disney’s strategy of cross-media expansion of its franchises.
Although the hype around the term “metaverse” has long faded, Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in 2024 essentially revives key elements of the concept, but this time built on the already proven and massively popular Fortnite ecosystem.
As a reminder, the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Finals will take place in Barcelona.
