The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), in partnership with Netflix Games, has announced FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, a new football simulation game. The project is part of FIFA’s updated digital strategy aimed at expanding fan engagement worldwide.
The game will be available exclusively through Netflix Games starting June 11 and will be free for all Netflix subscribers.
The title features a streamlined and accessible gameplay experience designed for players of all skill levels. According to the developers, the content is intended to fully immerse users in the atmosphere of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game will include:
One of the key technological features of FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition is its integration between mobile devices and televisions through a “smartphone-as-controller” system. To start a match, players simply launch the game on a Smart TV and scan a QR code using their phone. Passing, shooting, and other actions are then performed via swipe controls on the mobile device.
The system supports local multiplayer sessions for up to four players simultaneously.
According to the developers, the launch version is focused on providing instant access to matches and an easy learning curve from the opening day of the World Cup. However, the release marks only the beginning of a long-term project, with FIFA planning to introduce deeper gameplay mechanics and additional features through future updates.
As a reminder, Dota 2 recently received the 7.41d balance patch.
