Google offers reduced Play Store commission for integrating its AI and cloud technologies

The company Google is introducing a new strategy for the Google Play Store. According to the new rules, developers will be able to pay a lower commission if they agree to integrate specific Google technologies into their products, particularly artificial intelligence and cloud services.

Instead of the standard 30% commission, developers may qualify for a reduced fee of 10% or 15%, but only if they meet a number of “ecosystem loyalty” requirements.

To receive the reduced rate, developers must integrate:

  • Google Cloud — using Google’s cloud infrastructure for hosting and data processing.
  • Gemini / Vertex AI — implementing AI features based on Google’s models in their applications.
  • Google Play Games Services — for game developers, integration of achievements, leaderboards, and cloud saves will be required.

This move is seen as a response to increasing regulatory pressure and lawsuits. Google is trying to find a way to keep developers inside its ecosystem while formally offering an alternative to high commission fees.

Earlier, Electronic Arts announced a free week for Battlefield 6.
