Director Gore Verbinski has shared new details about the canceled BioShock film adaptation he was once attached to. According to his vision, the movie was meant to preserve the core idea of the game by showing the consequences of the audience’s choices, with two different endings planned depending on the path taken.

Verbinski admitted he was deeply invested in the project and wanted to push boundaries with the adaptation.

«I really wanted to bring it to the big screen and truly mess with people’s heads», — he said.

He also planned to explore the story’s Oedipal themes, keep an R rating, and focus heavily on the protagonist’s decisions and their outcomes.

However, Verbinski believes studios were ultimately unwilling to support that direction.

«Every year I hear something about the project, but I’m not sure any studio is quite willing to go where I was headed», — he explained.

The filmmaker was the first of three directors to take charge of the long awaited BioShock adaptation, which never made it to completion.
