In Hytale, Charcoal plays a dual role as a fuel option and a crafting component for several in-game items. Thankfully, producing Charcoal does not require complex steps, and most players can start making it early on once they understand the basic mechanics.
Charcoal Production Explained
Charcoal is generated whenever fuel materials are burned in either a Furnace or a Campfire. Items such as wooden sticks, logs, plant fiber, and other combustible resources will automatically produce Charcoal once they are consumed by a workstation.
As a result, every time food is cooked over a Campfire or Ore is smelted inside a Furnace using any fuel other than Charcoal itself, the process yields Charcoal in addition to the final product, whether that is cooked food or a metal Ingot.

Requires six Tree Trunks of any type and six Stones
Beyond passive generation, players can also deliberately turn fuel into Charcoal. By placing any fuel item into the fuel slot of a Campfire or Furnace and activating it, the item will be converted directly into Charcoal at a one-to-one ratio.
This method is particularly useful for inventory management, as it allows multiple fuel types to be consolidated into a single, stackable resource that is easier to store and organize.
While Charcoal does burn slightly more efficiently than basic materials like sticks or plant fiber, the difference is relatively small. In most scenarios, switching to Charcoal will not dramatically improve fuel performance.
Does Coal Exist in Hytale
Currently, Coal is not part of Hytale’s core gameplay. There are no Coal Ore blocks to discover underground, unlike Copper or Iron, and players cannot refine Charcoal into Coal.
Although this could change in future updates, Coal is not available in the base version of the game at this time. Some community-made mods may eventually introduce Coal blocks, but they are not officially supported yet.
