Blizzard Entertainment continues to expand Diablo IV with regular updates and fresh gameplay features. The developers frequently introduce new mechanics, locations, abilities, and other content. However, the upcoming tenth season will include a particularly unusual addition that allows players to temporarily transform into one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.

The new season titled «Season of Slaughter» will begin on March 11. This update will introduce a transformation mechanic that lets players take on the form of the Butcher.

The boss is well known among longtime fans. In the original Diablo he served as one of the first major challenges players encountered and became memorable not only because of the difficulty of the fight but also due to his terrifying appearance.

The Butcher later returned in several other entries of the series. This time players will be able to wield his signature bloody cleaver and use his brutal abilities themselves. To activate the transformation, players must collect «meat offerings» dropped by defeated enemies. These items can then be brought to the «Altar of Slaughter», where the transformation ability becomes available.

It is worth noting that controlling a boss character is something the Diablo franchise has never allowed before. If the feature proves successful, the developers may continue experimenting with similar ideas in future seasons.

Diablo IV is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. A second story expansion titled «Lord of Hatred» is scheduled for release in April and will introduce two new classes, the «Paladin» and the «Warlock».
