Journalist Stephen Totilo reported that Wildlight Entertainment received primary funding for the development of Highguard from TiMi Studio Group, the main gaming division of Tencent.

The Chinese tech giant is believed to have been the key early-stage investor in the project. Previously, the companies had not disclosed their financial relationship, and at the time of publication, representatives of both sides declined to comment.

Highguard reportedly failed to meet the developers’ expectations, forcing Wildlight Entertainment to carry out layoffs. The game’s official website has also gone offline, although the official reason for the outage has not yet been announced.

Previously, Krafton unveiled the first developer diary for the action RPG Project Windless.
