Multiplayer Guide for Hytale — How to Play with Friends in Hytale

Hytale finally lets players explore this boundless world, and it’s much more exciting in the company of friends. The developers have provided several convenient ways to play together: from simple co-op in your single-player world to creating fully featured dedicated servers.

In this guide, we’ll go over all available methods so you can easily set up multiplayer and set off on adventures without unnecessary hassle.

Co-op Play via Access Code

This is the simplest method if you just want to invite a few friends into your current world without creating and configuring a separate server.

How to Invite Friends (Host Instructions):

1. Load your single-player world (or create a new one).
2. Press ESC to open the pause menu and go to the “Online Play” section.
3. Enable the “Allow Other Players to Join” option.
4. If you wish, you can set a password to protect your world. Also note the “Include Password in Share Code” feature — if enabled, the password will automatically be embedded into your invitation code, making it easier for friends to join.
5. Click “Save.” The system will generate a unique Share Code — copy it and send it to your teammates.

How to Join a Friend’s World:

1. In the main menu of Hytale, select the “Servers” section.
2. Click the “Join via Code” button located at the bottom of the screen.
3. Paste the code you received from your friend. If the password was not embedded in the code, the game will prompt you to enter it separately.
4. Click “Connect” and enjoy the game.

One important aspect of multiplayer in Hytale is that, in most cases, when the world host goes offline, no one else can access the world. This means you can only play in your friend’s world while they are online.

Sometimes, when trying to play via an access code, players experience high ping or network errors.

Router issues: If your router does not support UPnP or if you are behind a so-called “grey” ISP IP (CGNAT), direct connection (Join via Code) may work unstably.

What to Do?

If co-op via access code results in high ping or your friends cannot connect at all, the simplest and most effective solution is to switch to a dedicated server. Creating a free server on third-party platforms removes the load from your home internet connection and ensures a smooth and comfortable experience for all participants.

Playing on Dedicated Servers

If you are planning large-scale builds, want to play with a big group, or want the world to be available 24/7 (even when the host has closed the game), you will need a full server.

Server Creation: You can rent resources from popular hosting providers or use free services (for example, the popular platform Aternos already supports creating servers for Hytale).

Authentication: After launching the server, it must be linked within the game system (the process is подробно described in the official Hytale server manual). After that, you will receive the server’s IP address.

Player Connection: Your friends need to go to the main menu → “Servers” → choose “Add Server” or “Direct Connect.” Then simply enter the IP address and port and click “Connect.”
