The upcoming game from Capcom has already captured the attention of millions of players. A demo for the sci fi action title Pragmata, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, has already been played by millions. The full release is scheduled for April 17, but the demo has been available on most platforms since The Game Awards in December.

According to Capcom, the Pragmata demo has already surpassed two million downloads, and another two million players have added the game to their wishlists. It remains unclear whether the game will convert that interest into actual sales, but the early response is an encouraging sign. New intellectual properties can be difficult to sell, yet Pragmata’s demo appears to have generated significant excitement among players.

Capcom has not provided detailed statistics about which platforms are driving the most interest. For example, the publisher has not revealed how many players tried the demo on Steam compared with Nintendo Switch 2. Such information could offer insight into which audiences the game resonates with most, though Capcom’s leadership is likely satisfied simply seeing this level of early engagement.

The surge of interest in Pragmata arrives only weeks after the launch of the newest entry in the Resident Evil franchise. The latest installment, Resident Evil Requiem, has been a major success both critically and commercially and currently holds the highest Metacritic score in the series’ history. Pragmata is unlikely to reach the same level of success, but Capcom probably does not expect sales comparable to its flagship franchise. If the game manages to sell a couple of million copies shortly after launch, it would reinforce the company’s strategy of developing high budget single player AAA titles. At a time when many video game publishers are struggling to secure major hits, Capcom could potentially deliver two successful releases within a short period.

Pragmata has been delayed multiple times since its original announcement and was initially planned for release in 2022. While repeated delays can sometimes signal development challenges, the situation appears more promising in this case, as the game’s release date was recently moved forward.

Early reactions to the Pragmata demo have been largely positive. Players on social media have expressed excitement about what they have experienced so far, with particular praise directed at the combat system. Some comparisons have even been made to recent Resident Evil titles. The demo itself is fairly short, so it is still difficult to predict how the final game will turn out. Fortunately, fans will not have to wait much longer to find out.

As a Reminder, Valve refused to settle with the New York Attorney General.
