Riot Games has commented on rumors about the future of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), confirming that the league will continue to operate primarily from the Riot Games Arena in Berlin in 2027. At the same time, the publisher says it is evaluating the possibility of introducing “limited online play.”

The statement was given to The Esports Radar by Max Schmidt, Director of League of Legends Esports in the EMEA region.

“We will continue to evaluate and evolve our production approach, including formats such as roadtrip events, selected match days without audience, and the possibility of limited online play. This will allow us to focus our efforts on the aspects that matter most to fans,” Schmidt said.

Riot noted that the goal of these changes is to make the league more flexible while maintaining the core LAN-based format in Berlin.

Reminder: Vitality are advancing through the upper bracket, while NIP are on the verge of elimination at BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026.
