Riot Games has officially announced the shutdown of the nostalgic League of Legends Classic mode. The project will permanently leave the servers in January 2027, following the conclusion of its third season.
The main reason for this decision is a decline in player interest over time. Despite the initial hype at launch, the mode's audience gradually decreased. This led the studio to reconsider the viability of funding the project, which initially featured an ambitious roadmap with regular champion releases and updates.
Ahead of its complete closure, access to the mode will be restricted in certain regions. Starting with Patch 26.21, custom matches will be the only way to play LoL Classic for players in Japan and the MENA region.

To compensate players for the project's premature end, the developers have prepared several transitional measures:
However, Riot Games is not abandoning the concept entirely. The studio is considering bringing LoL Classic back in the future as a temporary mode, similar to URF. This format would allow developers to implement necessary changes and add new content, though no exact dates for its potential return have been announced yet.
