The roguelike deckbuilder Slay the Spire 2 has launched with massive momentum in early access. During its first weekend, the game reached a peak of around 574,000 concurrent players on Steam.
For comparison, Hollow Knight Silksong previously recorded a peak of 587,000 players, though that number came during a full release rather than an early access launch.
Developer Mega Crit admitted it did not expect such a huge response. The sequel to the popular roguelike became an instant hit, and its player numbers continued to grow throughout the first few days after release.
The game had already become the roguelike with the highest concurrent player peak in Steam history. Now Slay the Spire 2 has also entered the top 20 highest concurrent player counts ever recorded on the platform. Its peak surpassed the numbers of games such as Call of Duty, Terraria, ARC Raiders, and Valheim.
Reacting to the milestone on social media, the developers said:
«Our team is TOTALLY blown away by the amount of people who have been playing and sharing their love for the game we've been working on for the past half decade. We're excited to continue making Slay the Spire 2 the best it can be».
The studio also made a lighthearted joke about Hollow Knight Silksong, adding:
«Also obligatory joke. We'll getcha one day Silksong».
