*NSYNC choreographer Darrin Henson has filed a lawsuit against Sony, alleging unauthorized use of the iconic “Bye Bye Bye” dance in the latest Deadpool film and in the game Fortnite.
According to Billboard, Henson stated that Sony Music Holdings allowed the use of his work in the film “Deadpool & Wolverine” and in the video game Fortnite without proper authorization. He claims that the company did not have the right to license his choreography.
The lawsuit also notes that the dance first appeared at the Radio Music Awards in 1999 during the boy band’s performance. In 2000, Henson received an MTV Video Music Award for this choreography.
Epic Games is not listed as a defendant in the lawsuit. The “Bye Bye Bye” dance emote appeared in Fortnite on September 24, 2024, but was removed from the shop just five days later and has not returned since.
Recall that the new Resident Evil film received positive first reactions after a test screening.
