The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) has announced the creation of a working group to prepare for the Olympic Esports Games. The group has been formed to explore the possibility of hosting the Esports Olympics in South Korea, as well as to support the development of national teams.

The working group will include representatives of the Korean Sports Council, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, sports organizations, academia, and experts in esports and gaming.

South Korea expressed interest in hosting the Esports Olympics after the 12-year agreement between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Saudi Arabia on developing the Esports Olympics was canceled.

The partnership between the IOC and Saudi Arabia was announced ahead of the Paris Olympic Games. This cooperation was part of Saudi Arabia’s national development program, Vision 2030. The first Olympic Esports Games were initially scheduled to take place this year in Riyadh but were postponed to 2027. Subsequently, the IOC and Saudi Arabia decided to terminate the agreement due to differing visions for the Esports Olympics.

As a reminder, the CCT Global Finals 2026 — the season finale — will take place in Portugal as a LAN event, featuring a $75,000 prize pool and eight top teams competing for the title.
