In an interview with IGN, Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone shared that the idea of a sequel has always appealed to him. He would love to introduce new characters and recapture the emotions he experienced while creating the original game. However, Barone admits that fans are deeply attached to Pelican Town and its residents, which makes him worry that a new game might feel too similar to the original.

Instead, he released Haunted Chocolatier, which he calls “in a way Stardew Valley 2,” but with a different focus and atmosphere. Barone also explained that he plans to continue updating Stardew Valley according to his own vision, with the upcoming 1.7 update bringing new features, including two new marriage candidates.
Barone noted that Stardew Valley has evolved into a team project: from being a solo developer, he now works with a team that helps with updates, localization, and technical aspects.
He emphasizes that the game has grown beyond his personal project: «Stardew Valley has grown like a child and now has its own life outside of me».
Although balancing work on Stardew Valley and Haunted Chocolatier can be challenging, Barone stresses that he continues to focus on both projects, aiming to maintain the uniqueness and quality of a game that has captivated millions of fans worldwide for over ten years.
