Capcom and EA have announced a new collaboration between Street Fighter and Apex Legends, with the event set to begin on September 22. The crossover gives fans another reason to return to the iconic fighting franchise ahead of a major October 2026 for Street Fighter, which will also see the arrival of its upcoming movie.
The event will introduce Street Fighter inspired cosmetics, a Hadoken Mythic Universal Melee, and a special Wildcard Takeover designed around the spirit of the fighting game.
Several Apex Legends characters will take on the roles of iconic Street Fighter fighters:
• Sparrow as Ryu
• Alter as Chun-Li
• Bangalore as Elena
• Mirage as Luke
• Gibraltar as Akuma
• Wattson as Cammy
• Caustic as Blanka
• Pathfinder as Dhalsim
The collaboration will also add new Street Fighter themed weapon skins for the R-99, EVA-8, Flatline, Volt, G7 Scout, Mozambique, Sentinel, and Peacekeeper.
Olympus has been redesigned for the Wildcard mode with numerous references to Street Fighter. Players will find classic arcade cabinets throughout the map, alongside towering statues of Capcom's legendary fighters represented as Legends. As World Director Eduardo Agostini explained, "We wanted Olympus to feel like a living Street Fighter stage."
The crossover also introduces significant gameplay changes. Players can collect Tokens to charge a new Fight Gauge and activate a Fighter Form. Each player selects their Street Fighter form before the match begins, although an in-game Token can be used to change it during the match.
Every Fighter Form provides new Tactical and Ultimate abilities inspired by iconic Street Fighter techniques, including Hadokens, Shoryukens, Yoga Sunbursts, and Kikosho blasts. Activating a Fighter Form switches Apex Legends to third-person view, while Respawn is adding full melee combos instead of the usual repetitive attacks.
The final stage of the match, known as Showdown, takes the crossover even further. Any player who gets downed immediately returns to the battle, turning the closing moments into a massive clash between Fighter Forms.
At this point, Apex Legends' weapons and standard abilities take a back seat as players unleash Hadokens, Shoryukens, and other Street Fighter inspired attacks. The finale therefore feels much closer to a traditional fighting game than a standard battle royale final circle.
