Tekken 8 received a substantial update on March 18, launching Season 3 and introducing major balance changes along with new content. After a strong 2024 release, the game faced criticism over its seasonal updates, especially Season 2, which performed poorly and led Bandai Namco to replace its balancing team and promise improvements.
Season 3 was marketed as a return to basics with a more predictable balance between offense and defense, aiming to usher in a new era after an eight-month wait.
Version 3.00.00 is now live on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
Key Changes in the Tekken 8 Season 3 Update:
According to the developers, these changes are intended to create a «battle experience in which each character's individuality can be felt more clearly within neutral interactions and mind-games».
New content includes the Round 9 Fight Pass and the Tekken Dev Feedback Portal, allowing players to submit feedback directly. Several new characters are scheduled for 2026, including Kunimitsu, Bob, Roger Jr., and an additional unannounced fighter.
Despite these additions, early community reception has been largely negative. Many players have voiced frustration online. Competitive player PhiDX commented that the developers are «making many steps in vastly different directions» instead of returning to basics. Overall, the sentiment suggests that the studio once again promised one thing but delivered another.
The situation is further complicated by the departure of longtime director Katsuhiro Harada in late 2025. It remains unclear whether he could have guided the game in a different direction. As a result, Season 3 may struggle to prove that the long wait was worth it for players.
