The canceled Prince of Persia remake was nearly finished at the time Ubisoft pulled the plug. This was reported by insider xj0nathan, who has previously shared reliable information about Ubisoft projects. According to him, the game was shut down at the very last moment, with developers needing only to fix remaining bugs.
The insider also shared an image showing the updated look of the Prince. The character’s appearance was reportedly modeled after an Indian actor.
The remake was originally developed by Ubisoft India and officially announced back in 2020. At that stage, development was close to completion. However, following a negative fan response, the project was handed over to Ubisoft Montreal, where production effectively restarted from scratch. Sources claim that by the time of the final cancellation, the game had once again reached its final development phase.
In the end, Ubisoft decided to cancel the remake entirely instead of attempting another overhaul. According to Tom Henderson, the decision was influenced by serious internal communication issues. QA reports suggested that development was progressing well, while testers themselves reportedly described the game as «terrible».
