Host and producer Geoff Keighley confirmed that The Game Awards 2026 will take place on Thursday, December 10, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. He stated that more details will be announced later this year.
The date closely matches last year’s timing and allows most major releases to be eligible, except likely GTA 6, which is coming too late.
Fans have already reacted with memes and posts about Grand Theft Auto VI, which is considered one of the most anticipated releases in history. The long-delayed game won the Most Anticipated Game award at The Game Awards in 2024 and 2025, taking it two years in a row. Some joke it could happen again if GTA 6 slips to 2027.
People are also wondering if GTA 6 will qualify for any 2026 awards. For the 2025 show, games had to be released by November 21 to be considered. If the same cutoff applies, it would be November 20. GTA 6 is currently scheduled for release on November 19.
