The film Super Mario Galaxy has held the number one spot at the U.S. box office for the third consecutive week, allowing the entire series to reach a major milestone.

The sequel’s total worldwide box office currently stands at $747.4 million, including $355.2 million in the United States and $392.2 million internationally.

Since the first film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, grossed $1.36 billion, the combined earnings of the two movies have exceeded $2 billion. This milestone places the Mario franchise among the top 10 highest-grossing animated film series in history.

Experts predict that the sequel could surpass $1 billion in global box office revenue.
