IO Interactive, known for the Hitman series, is developing the new James Bond game 007 First Light. Hitman has always impressed players with creative ways to navigate Agent 47 through levels and interact with the environment. World of Assassination showcased IO Interactive’s skill in crafting flexible, inventive playgrounds for different play styles.
However, 007 First Light must be a unique experience, capturing James Bond’s charisma and interactions, rather than simply copying Hitman’s mechanics. Still, several Hitman elements would fit perfectly into a spy thriller. Some are visible in trailers, some are logical expectations from IO Interactive, and some are pure fan service.
Ridiculous Environmental Takedowns
Both Bond and Agent 47 enjoy using the environment to neutralize enemies, and trailers indicate plenty of such moments in 007 First Light, complete with jokes and quips. Yet nothing has reached the cartoonish scale of Mendoza’s grape press.

Single-Use Traps
Hitman’s one-time-use traps give players more control over the environment. In 007 First Light, similar mechanics would allow Bond to disrupt rather than kill.

Unlockable Outfits From Challenges
Hitman rewards replay with unusual challenges and costumes. 007 First Light could offer cosmetic rewards that encourage repeated playthroughs.

Protected NPCs
Characters whose death triggers mission failure suit a Bond game, encouraging strategic approaches and role-play where Bond doesn’t always kill.

Contracts and Sandbox Elements
Hitman lets players create their own contracts on familiar levels. In 007 First Light, expansive levels allow revisiting areas for intel and distractions.

Important Dropped Items
Marking dropped items helps players manage equipment and costumes, which will be useful in 007 First Light.

Clear Difficulty Tiers
Hitman separates Casual, Professional, and Master, affecting enemy behavior and save availability. For Bond, difficulty could influence role-play and mission strategy.

Distraction Chains
Hitman’s simple distractions (coins, noises) allow sequentially neutralizing guards. Similar mechanics could enhance stealth in 007 First Light.

Customizable Loadout
Bond’s gadgets are iconic. Letting players choose their loadout adds tactical depth and replayability, as in Hitman.
